If you got any of those references, you'll probably enjoy my blog. If you got most of those references? You'll totally love my blog. Its also fairly safe for work with the occasional exception.

Please feel free and heavily encouraged to re-blog anything I've posted. Re-blogging is like a round of applause IMHO, really makes me happy to see my stuff re-blogged; even if I myself re-blogged it from someone else. Likes are good too, but they're like a thumbs up. Applause trumps a thumbs up, you know?

Favorite Things as Evidenced by the Introduction are (In No Particular Order): Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica (modern), Firefly, Batman, Superman, DC Comics, Ghostbusters, Terminator, Cats, My Autographs, old school Star Wars (the prequels suck!), Pretty Genre Gals, Funny Stuff ... and my gods I Sound like a Loser with that List! Oh Well.

Also, I Don't Post a Lot. I'm Much More of a Quality over Quantity type. Usually less than Ten Posts a Day. So you may have to Really Look through your Dash to Notice what I post.

Oh, also a note for my fellow Trekkies: I'm the guy responsible for TrekCore.com's Rare Photo and Ultimately Human specials, and basically flooding the internet via TrekCore with a few thousand awesome and rare Star Trek photos for the past 5 years. So... yeah. Oh and, go through my Archive, it is frakking awesome and shiny!

Hey wow, something good actually happened.  My Amazon order of BSG: Blood & Chrome + Dark Knight Returns Part 2 blu-rays got in under the wire before I had to cancel my debit card the other day, shipped, and arrived in the mail.  Yay!  :D

/Rant at Our ‘Education’ System

So… when did the school systems in this country get together and decide, “Hey, you know what?  We don’t need cursive writing anymore.  Yeah, lets just shit-can that.”

No, really.

I want to know when this happened.

Because I surely did not get that memo.

Who decided that the next generation of kids should all just print things?  And that basically we’d devolve our language as a society?

What’s next, we stop teaching lower-case letters?  I mean, we’re already half-way to everyone writing like a bunch of block-letter printing ransom-note makers, right?  Why not take that final step.

I know the education system in this country is fucked up, I do.  I know it’s been getting worse the past decade.  But this?  This is just a sign of lazy ignorance and apathy.  This is a sign that the educators are too over-worked and under-resourced to the point where they are themselves just giving up because they don’t have it in them to fight such things with all the other problems we’ve got.

For fucks sake, the gods damn declaration of independence is written in cursive, technically speaking!

Which means this generation won’t even really be able to read it (at least in part)!

Then again, rate things are going, they likely won’t teach it much longer either!

Sigh.

It just makes me sad.  Maybe because, as an autograph hound, I really appreciate hand writing (despite my own being atrocious).  Maybe it’s because I hate change.

…Or maybe it’s just because it’s a really pathetic statement about our future and how (and what) we teach the next generation and beyond.

Today is My One Year Blog-iversary! :D

Awesome, Yes?

Fuck You, Doritos!

So when I was a kid, I got these migraine headaches.  Bad enough that I had like prescription strength meds for them and they’d last for days on end.  And we figured out one of the many things that might be setting them off, sort of a catalyst, was some chemical that is in doritos.  How?  Cause whenever I’d eat them I’d get a headache and then that could turn into a migraine.

So I stopped eating them for like, a decade plus.

But I’ve not had migraines in like, a decade plus, so I figured, “what the hell” right?

So I’ve been eating them again the past few months and, no problems.

Except now the past three or four times I’ve eaten them?  Headaches.

Fuck you, doritos!

:(

You are tasty and I enjoy you and you give me headaches because of some unique chemical in you!

And I think that’s pretty much it for “frontier facts” as a regular thing.  Had a hell of a time coming up with the last crop, and 50 is a good round number to stop at.

*Sigh* I Miss Star Trek Conventions…

I’ve gone to quite a few; a dozen or so.  Used to go yearly back in the late 90s early 00s.  Haven’t been to one since 2009; before that, 2006.  My health (heart condition) just won’t allow it.  Too much walking, standing, so on.

There’s one going on today/this weekend right down in Philly.  Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Levar Burton, Tim Russ…

OK, so I’ve met them all before.  Some of them twice.  Not the point.

And at least I’m getting some more autographs out of it via my friend Bill… still not the point.

I miss going and being there.  Immersed in an environment full of Trekkies.  Where you can randomly shout out “NCC-1701, no bloody…” and have the room finish “A, B, CorD!”

I’m agoraphobic with social anxiety disorder.  I DO NOTenjoy going out anywhere.  I don’t even like opening my front door.  So when I say I miss being in a crowded convention center or hotel ballroom full of 800+ people?  That should really send a message in flares!

Sigh.

There is another event, a comic con, coming up soon.  Two of the very few people from Trek I’ve not met will be there.  I truly want to go.  But I just can’t see how…

/Sad Rant

EDIT: So remember that photo of Data and Geordi I made?

Apparently, Levar really likes it.  So much so that he wants to e-mail me about it.  :D

I don’t know how I’ll tell him it’s just a simple blu-ray screen cap I touched up in photoshop, lol.

I know for West Coasters, this is like “pff, who cares?” and such, but for us life-long east coasters, experiencing that one quake is rare.  So to have two under my belt makes me like, an ‘expert’ or something for the other east coasters.  :P
How many quakes have you experienced?
What was your first episode of Star Trek?
Considering how much I dislike my first name, you would think I would do like a lot of people in such a scenario and use my middle name.  May dad did this; ironically, his middle name was Doug, but he liked it better than his first name which was Roland (can’t say I blame him) - but I don’t feel Ryan fits me really at all.  Not even a little bit.  And while I don’t like Doug, it does somewhat fit me. At least, more so than my middle name…
I wish we all got to choose our own names when we turned 18.
What’s your middle name?
Which is your favorite?
I like dogs fine; cats are just way cooler. :P
Which are you?
I have a lot of weird food habits… a lot.
It can be quite a pain in the ass sometimes.  Often, actually.

What about you?  Favorite films?
Anyone do anything ‘weird’ with their food?
